Top 6 Vancouver Sushi Restaurants
Posted by Natalie in UncategorizedI have been intending to put together a post about the Vancouver sushi restaurants I think are among the best. It’s a question I get quite often from those visiting Vancouver and I feel that people are often led terribly astray due to the abundance of sushi restaurants that exist in this city, thinking that because it’s Vancouver they can’t go wrong. Well that couldn’t be further from the truth, there are some really bad sushi restaurants in this city… if you are planning a trip here, or are looking for a new place to try out, here are my current picks for top 6 Vancouver area sushi restaurants.
1. Ajisai -Hands down this is my favorite place in Vancouver. The fish is as fresh as it’ll get and is probably still flapping around in the back as you are waiting patiently for a seat in this tiny cramped jewel of a restaurant. If there is one place in all of Vancouver to eat sashimi this would definitely be it. Try the toro it may change your life. This is a Vancouver foodie must. A bit of a drive out to Kerrisdale but completely worth it.

2. Bistro Sakana -I ate lunch here for the first time recently and was impressed with the quality of their ingredients. I’ve been generally disappointed with the yaletown/downtown area selection around my office, nothing seems to stand out and is either of the cheap risk your life variety or mediocre and extremely overpriced.

3. Hapa Izakaya – While not a traditional sushi restaurant but rather an Izakaya, Hapa delivers on the sushi front as well. It made the list because I love me some Izakaya and often these days enjoy a sushi option as well. Most Vancouver Izakayas, while serving sushi don’t do it particularly well, so if you are feeling the need for some great sushi but your friends are in the mood for the Izakaya Hapa will give you the best of both worlds.

4. Toshi – A main street favorite, this is another small place that will require you to line up and stare uncomfortably at the people seated for a good 45 minutes before eating even becomes a reality. Toshi made my list because its a great deal for the price and always has fresh fish. I have never been disappointed when I’ve eaten here and the wait has always been worth it. If you’re looking to accompany your sushi experience with a warm dish the eggplant is definitely a favorite and a great side to any sushi dinner. But be prepared to wait or get there just before 5 pm when they open.

5. Octopus Garden – While a bit on the pricey side, this Kit’s Point restaurant will definitely make you want to come back for more. I’m not a fan of cheap sushi and would rather only eat it every once and a while and pay more for quality than have it on a weekly basis cheap.

6. Hachi Hana -This is one of my North Vancouver favorites. When I go across the bridge to visit my parents this is one of the places I go to get my sushi fix. This is another place where it’s good to arrive early if you don’t have reservations as it fills up fast even during the week. If you’re a gomae fan like me, this place makes it great!
